Richard O. I. Brown is an Assistant United States Attorney (“AUSA”) for the United States Department of Justice, Southern District of Florida. As an AUSA, Richard presently works in the Civil Asset Forfeiture Division responsible for the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes involving the seizure of assets relenting to financial and money laundering crimes. Over his 18-year career as a Federal Prosecutor in both the Southern District of Florida and the District of New Jersey, Richard has also worked in the Criminal Division where he prosecuted various federal crimes, some of which involved Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (“OCEDEFT”), Gang Violence, Human Trafficking, Narcotics, Social Security Fraud, and Bank Robberies. Including more than 30 Federal Trails where he has served as the First Chair Prosecutor. In addition, as a senior prosecutor, Richard is very active in recruiting and mentoring younger AUSA, particularly minority attorneys.

Richard is also a proud United States Army Veteran attaining the rank of Major, as well as, Airborne and Air Assault status. During his 8-year on active duty as a member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps. Richard served during the both Gulf Wars. The First Gulf War as a member of the active duty force and the Second Gulf War as a reservist activated for “Operation Noble Eagle”. His military assignments include: Chief of Military Justice, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia and 32nd Army Air Defense Command, Darmstadt, Germany. The Staff Judge Advocate, 1303rd Major Port Command, North Carolina; Operational Law Attorney, 3220th GSU, West Palm Beach, Florida; Trial Defense Services Attorney, 2nd Infantry Division, South Korea; and Claims Attorney, Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Richard has also worked as a General Practitioner in his own firm; as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office; and a Congressional Intern for The Honorable William H. Gray, III.

Richard holds bar memberships with the Supreme Court of the United States of America, United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, United States District Court- Southern District of Florida and District of New Jersey, Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia, Army Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Superior Court of the State of Georgia.

Some of his other professional and community affiliations include: National Association of Assistant United States Attorneys; National Black Prosecutors Association; U.S. Attorney’s Community Reading Program; Drug Education for Youth Program; a member of the 2015 National Pre-Law Diversity Initiatives, Inc. Host Committee, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Richard is a graduate of Howard University School of Law. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Richard and his wife, Donise, are the proud parents of teens, Matthew and Hannah.
